Light Roast vs Dark Roast: What’s the Real Difference?
Choosing between a light roast and a dark roast can feel overwhelming — but it doesn’t have to be. Each roast level offers something unique, and knowing the difference helps you find your perfect cup.
What Is Roast Level?
Roasting is the process that transforms green coffee beans into the aromatic, flavorful beans we brew. The longer and hotter the roast, the darker and more intense the bean becomes.
Light Roast:
- Retains more of the coffee’s original flavors from its growing region
- Bright acidity with floral, fruity notes
- Slightly higher caffeine by volume

Dark Roast:
- Bold, smoky, and rich flavors
